Dhaka, June 2 -- Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has blocked a proposal for the Chattogram mayor and five officials to fly to the United States to study mosquito control.

Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon said a proposal was sent to the Prime Minister's Office by the Local Government Division, where the mayor sought a visit to Florida to observe innovative mosquito eradication activities.

"After reviewing the summary, the prime minister directed that there is no need to go to Florida to learn about or observe mosquito control," he said.

Rumon added that the prime minister suggested spending two to three hours in the evening beside any stagnant water body or drain to come up with innovative mosquito control methods.
