Dhaka, May 19 -- Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has ordered measures to prevent water pollution in Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara lakes and to increase civic amenities involving these waterbodies.

The instructions came in a meeting chaired by the premier at his office on Tuesday on the development and environmental protection of the lakes.

Issues including preventing water pollution of Gulshan Lake, maintaining ecological balance, beautification and increasing lake-centric citizen facilities were on the agenda, says the Prime Minister's Office.

Officials highlighted the current situation of the lake and expressed their views on plans and initiatives for sustainable development, it adds.
