Dhaka, April 3 -- A 13-month-old child has died while undergoing treatment for measles-like symptoms at Tangail General Hospital, marking the second such fatality in 48 hours.

The child, identified only as Safa, passed away early Friday morning, confirmed Khandaker Sadiqur Rahman, the superintendent of the hospital.

Her death follows the passing of 8-month-old Yamin, also identified with a single name, who died with similar symptoms on Thursday.

The hospital has seen a steady influx of young patients showing signs of the viral infection. In the last 24 hours alone, eight more children were admitted with measles symptoms.

Currently, 23 children are receiving treatment for the illness at the facility.
