Dhaka, Jan. 24 -- Police say the killing of Swechhasebak Dal leader Azizur Rahman Muchabbir was carried out on the instructions of a fugitive underworld figure believed to be living abroad.

Speaking at a media briefing on Saturday, Additional Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch (DB) said investigators believe the murder was ordered by a top criminal known as Binash Dada aka Dilip.

According to investigators, the killing was linked to disputes over extortion and territorial dominance in Karwan Bazar.

The revelation came a day after the DB arrested one of the shooters, identified by a single name as Rahim, during a raid in Narsingdi.
