Bangladesh, May 29 -- Former Awami League lawmaker from the Thakurgaon-2 constituency and freedom fighter Dabirul Islam has died at a private hospital in Dhaka.

He breathed his last around 5:45pm on Thursday. Dabirul was 77.

His elder brother and former Thakurgaon Baliadangi Upazila Awami League president Mohammad Ali said Dabirul's funeral will be held at the Government Shahid Akbar Ali Science and Technology College grounds in Thakurgaon at 3pm on Friday.

He will be buried in the family graveyard there.

After the political upheaval in the country on Aug 5, 2024, several cases were filed against Dabirul, said Ali. Dabirul was arrested on Oct 3 of that year.
