Bangladesh, May 25 -- Seven of the 15 people killed in a road accident on the Dhaka-Tangail-Jamuna Bridge highway were hawkers from the same village in Naogaon's Manda Upazila, their families have said.

The victims, all from Rajendrabati village in Varsho, were among a group of itinerant traders working in Noakhali's Begumganj Upazila.

They were on their way home ahead of Eid-ul-Azha when the accident struck early Monday.

Police and Fire Service and Civil Defence officials said the incident took place around 4am in Saratail of Tangail's Kalihati Upazila when a rod-laden truck overturned on the highway, killing 15 people and injuring 10 others.

The injured are undergoing treatment at Tangail General Hospital.
