Dhaka, Sept. 30 -- Departments at Rajshahi University (RU) have been charging wildly different fees for exam form submissions, improvement exams and other purposes in the absence of any central policy.

Even for identical exams, fees vary from one department to another.

Some departments charge per course, others by exam duration, and others still a flat rate, according to a review of form-fill notices from different faculties.

Students have also alleged extra charges under headings such as departmental development, departmental associations and cultural activities.

The university has 59 departments under 12 faculties, according to data. Students pay a range of prescribed fees when enrolling for a new academic year.
