Dhaka, April 13 -- A retired traffic police constable has "slashed at his sleeping son and two others" with a sharp weapon before jumping from a roof in Lakshmipur. He later died in hospital.

The incident took place on Monday morning in the Banchanagar area of the Lakshmipur municipality, said Lakshmipur Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Hossain Mohammad Raihan Kazemi.

The deceased, 55-year-old Nasir Ahmed, hailed from Faridganj Upazila in Chandpur. He had been living in the area with his family for the past seven years.

Initially, police believe the former policeman suffered from some mental disturbance.
