Bangladesh, July 23 -- A leader of the National Citizen Party (NCP) has been arrested in a rape case filed by a college student, who alleged that he made a physical relationship with her after luring her with a promise of marriage.

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested him from Chattogram's Halishahar area on Wednesday night and handed him over to Chandgaon Police Station.

The arrestee, Aftab Majumdar Joy, is a member of the convening committee of the Chattogram metropolitan unit of the NCP. He is a resident of the Wireless Murgi Farm area under Khulshi Police Station.
