Dhaka, May 14 -- MM Shariful Karim, a professor of English, has been appointed the vice-chancellor of Comilla University.

The Ministry of Education announced the appointment for a four-year term on Thursday.

Shariful is the founding chairman of the university's English department and has been serving it since 2007.

He completed his bachelor's and Master's degrees in English literature from Chittagong University.

Prof Shariful obtained his PhD degree in English Literary Studies from the International Islamic University, Malaysia.

Before his appointment at Comilla University, he had joined the 18th BCS Education Cadre batch in 1999.
