Dhaka, June 11 -- The prices of all levels of cigarettes and tobacco products have been raised in the budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year.

The new prices were announced in the budget speech by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury on Thursday.

The finance minister said the proposal for tobacco and tobacco products has been put forward to "optimally balance" revenue potential and health risks.

He said, "I propose to set the minimum retail price of cigarettes at Tk 62 for 10 sticks at the low-quality level, Tk 92 for 10 at the medium level, Tk 160 for the high level and Tk 210 for the ultra-high level."

Currently, a pack of 10 sticks of low-quality cigarettes costs Tk 60, which means the price would increase by Tk 2.
