Bangladesh, Aug. 23 -- Police have stepped up security in Dhaka's diplomatic district after several embassies reportedly received threatening emails.

Police intensified monitoring after hearing about the reported threats, Abu Khayer, additional deputy commissioner of the Diplomatic Security Division, said on Sunday.

"We have not received any written complaint," he added.

Several embassies in Dhaka, including those of China and Russia, received threatening emails last week.

The missions informed the foreign ministry, which subsequently alerted police headquarters and different DMP units, including the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit.
