Dhaka, Feb. 22 -- Police have paraded an alleged extortionist through the streets of Mohammadpur after arresting him for demanding illegal tolls from several local businessmen.

The suspect, identified with a single name Faruk alias "Kala Faruk", was apprehended on Sunday afternoon during a raid in Keraniganj.

Following his arrest, police took him to various spots in Mohammadpur to reassure the community and send a stern warning to criminals.

Mohammadpur Police chief Mezbah Uddin used a hand-held megaphone to address the public directly.

"We have caught the extortionist. Do not pay anyone any extortion money. If anyone demands a toll, catch them and inform us," he announced to residents and shopkeepers.
