Bangladesh, Aug. 14 -- A police constable has been sent to jail in a case accusing him of abusing his wife over dowry demands in Sherpur.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Sultan Mahmud Milon of the Sherpur Sadar CR Magistrate Court passed the order after rejecting his bail petition on Thursday, according to Court Police Inspector Md Ziaur Rahman.

The accused, 29-year-old Md Sohag Mia, hails from Suryadi Madhyapara village in Sherpur Sadar Upazila. He is currently serving as a constable at the Bandarban District Police Lines.

According to the case documents, Sohag married Lucky Akter, a resident of Sherpur Sadar's Boyra Paranpur village, on Dec 15, 2019. They have two children.
