Dhaka, March 9 -- Social Welfare Minister Abu Zafar Md Zahid Hossain has announced that 37,567 households headed by women have been selected to receive Family Cards in the first phase of the new social security programme.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to inaugurate the Family Card programme at 10am on Tuesday at the T&T playground in Dhaka.

Upon launch, the beneficiaries will receive their allowances directly through bank accounts or Mobile Financial Services (MFS).

Speaking at a press conference at the Secretariat, the minister explained on Monday that each selected female head of the family will receive a monthly allowance of Tk 2,500.
