Dhaka, March 10 -- A pilot project to distribute the "New Social Security Program Family Card" has begun at the T&T playground adjacent to the Karail slum in Mohakhali under an initiative of the Ministry of Social Welfare.

The programme began at 10:40am on Tuesday, with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman scheduled to hand over the cards to one female head from each family.

The pilot distribution programme is being launched in 14 Upazilas across the country in addition to Dhaka. An initial target has been set to provide the cards to 320,000 families.

In the first phase, 37,567 female-headed families will receive the cards in stages by June.
