Dhaka, Sept. 30 -- Tarique Rahman's first trip to New York as prime minister was pitched as more than a UN appearance -- it was an opportunity to project Bangladesh's democratic transition, national interests and ambitions on the world stage, Advisor Mahdi Amin has said.

Speaking at a press conference at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in Tejgaon on Wednesday, the prime minister's advisor said the visit marked the return of a government chosen by the people to the global stage.

"After a long time, the head of a government elected by the people represented Bangladesh on the world stage. It was a powerful stride for democracy, and at every step the honourable prime minister ensured that 'Bangladesh comes first'," he said.
