Dhaka, Sept. 25 -- President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has lauded Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for his speech the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, describing it as "visionary, resolute and direction-setting".

In a congratulatory message on Friday, Fakhrul said the speech had clearly set out Bangladesh's national interests, the aspirations of its people and the country's position on key global issues.

The head of state said the address would further strengthen Bangladesh's standing on the world stage.

Tarique delivered the speech at UN headquarters in New York after 6pm local time on Thursday.
