Dhaka, Sept. 29 -- Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has met with President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at Bangabhaban.

It was the premier's first meeting with the head of state there since Fakhrul assumed office.

The meeting took place at 3pm on Tuesday, President's Press Secretary Sarwar Alam said.

Tarique briefed the president on his US visit, the 81st UN General Assembly and meetings on the sidelines with heads of state and government, the UN secretary general and senior officials, and senior representatives of international economic and development organisations.

Fakhrul congratulated Tarique on his "historic" address to the UNGA, describing it as "far-sighted, resolute and directional".
