Dhaka, Oct. 1 -- Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has inaugurated a flood control and irrigation project in Feni to shield the district from devastating floods.

He unveiled the plaque, which names it the "Rehabilitation of Muhuri-Kahua Flood Control, Drainage and Irrigation Project (Phase 1)", at Kheyaghat near Muhuri Bridge in Parshuram Upazila at 2:10pm on Thursday, driving straight from Dhaka.

He then planted a sapling at the site and launched a canal excavation programme.

Rafiqul Alam Maznu, the BNP lawmaker for Feni-1, welcomed the premier on his arrival.
