Dhaka, Sept. 29 -- Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Hossain Fakir has instructed field-level police personnel to take strict legal action against drug dealers, terrorists, and extortionists.

He said, "No political affiliation will be considered in this regard. An offender's only identity is that of an offender."

He issued these directives during the monthly crime review meeting for August, held at the Police Headquarters on Tuesday.

Reiterating police's "zero-tolerance" stance against drugs, the police chief said: "Strict measures must be taken to curb drug abuse."

He urged ensuring the participation of the general public through community policing in this effort.
