Dhaka, Feb. 28 -- National Citizen Party (NCP) Convenor Nahid Islam has urged his party activists to take the electioneering opportunity for the upcoming local government elections to strengthen the party at the grassroots level.

Speaking at an Iftar event in Dhanmondi on Saturday marking the NCP's first anniversary, the Dhaka-11 lawmaker and Opposition Chief Whip emphasised that the party must not rest on its recent parliamentary gains.

The NCP, which emerged from the 2024 student-led mass uprising, secured six seats in the Feb 12 parliamentary elections as part of an 11-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami.

"We expect the local government elections to be held soon," Nahid told the gathering.
