Dhaka, Sept. 20 -- Police have recovered the hanging body of Mariam Khatun, the second wife of controversial MP Gazi Nazrul Islam who was expelled from Jamaat-e-Islami, from a flat at the NAM Bhaban near the parliament complex in Dhaka.

The death comes two months after a video showing Nazrul with 19-year-old Mariam went viral on social media in July, triggering widespread discussion.

Nazrul had then acknowledged Mariam as his second wife but faced nationwide criticism and intense political pressure. Jamaat subsequently expelled him from the party.
