Dhaka, April 27 -- Kushtia-3 (Sadar) MP and Islamic speaker Mufti Amir Hamza has been granted anticipatory bail by the High Court after an arrest warrant was issued against him in a defamation case.

A bench of Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher made the decision on Monday.

Senior lawyer Mohammad Shishir Manir represented Hamza at the hearing, accompanied by Advocate Saddam Hossain.

Deputy Attorney General Md Ashikuzzaman Nazrul and Assistant Attorney General Md Al Amin represented the state.

Nazrul told bdnews24.com that the court had granted anticipatory bail to Hamza in the defamation case for eight weeks or until the submission of the police report, whichever came first.
