Dhaka, April 22 -- Shilpi Begum, a Jubo Mohila League activist who was sent to jail in a case over the attempted murder of Dhaka University student Tahmid Mubin Ratul during the July Uprising and separated from her one-and-a-half-month-old daughter, has been released on bail.

Shilpi and her child were released from Kashimpur Central Jail shortly before noon on Wednesday. Family members were present at the time.

Shilpi's lawyer, Farzana Yasmin Rakhi, said: "Yesterday afternoon, Shilpi's bail plea was rejected and she was sent to jail. Later in the evening, she was granted bail after we sought reconsideration.
