Dhaka, April 26 -- A mother has died just hours after learning of the death of her son, a former Union Parishad chairman and Awami League leader, in Kishoreganj's Katiadi.

Altaf Uddin Shahin, 53, died around 2am on Saturday at a hospital in Gazipur.

Upon hearing the news at their family home, his mother Jubaida Moni, 80, passed away at around 6am on Sunday, said Aminul Islam Mohorom, chairman of the Shahasram Dhuldia Union Parishad.

Shahin was a former chairman of the Union Parishad and a former general secretary of the local Awami League unit.

Family members believe Zubaida died from the shock of losing her son.
