Dhaka, May 17 -- The government has appointed Additional Inspector General of Police Mosleh Uddin Ahmed as the new Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

He was elected president of the Police Service Association just three days earlier.

Sunday's move comes as Md Sarwar, who was serving as acting commissioner of DMP, retired after completing his tenure in government service.

Following his retirement, Sarwar handed over charge on Thursday night to SN Nazrul Islam, additional commissioner (crime and operations) of DMP.
