Money changers cap dollar sales at Tk 126.5, warn of licence cancellations
Bangladesh, Aug. 24 -- Money changers can sell dollars for no more than Tk 126.5 and buy them at Tk 125.5 under a new rate set by the Money Changer Association of Bangladesh (MCAB).
MCAB President MS Zaman announced the rates at a press conference at the association's headquarters in Dhaka's Purana Paltan on Monday.
He warned that exchange houses trading outside the prescribed rates would face "strict action", including licence cancellation.
"We have taken this decision considering the current market situation," Zaman told bdnews24.com.
"The dollar is rising globally. Prices are climbing in India, Pakistan and elsewhere. That will naturally affect our market too; there is no way to hold it down artificially," he said.
