Dhaka, Sept. 27 -- The introduction of a midday meal programme at government primary schools has increased children's interest in attending classes in Lalmonirhat.

The free school-feeding programme, launched in Patgram and Kaliganj Upazilas on Dec 1 last year, provides nutritious food to students on school days.

According to data from the district primary education office, 25,356 students at 145 schools in Patgram and 22,044 students at 162 schools in Kaliganj are receiving the meals.

Under the programme, students are provided with fresh bread rolls, bananas, boiled eggs, milk and fortified biscuits five days a week, according to their nutritional needs.
