Bangladesh, July 10 -- Floodwater has receded from around 80 percent of Chattogram city, Mayor Shahadat Hossain said, though some low-lying areas remain inundated.

After inspecting several flood-hit neighbourhoods on Friday, he said work was under way to identify the causes of slow drainage and remove remaining obstacles.

Waterlogging began across parts of the city from Monday night amid five days of very heavy rain this week, with record rainfall on Tuesday submerging several areas.

Fresh areas went underwater on Wednesday, leaving most of the city waterlogged.

Some areas remained flooded through Thursday, with water beginning to recede from midday.
