Dhaka, Sept. 29 -- Detectives have sought permission to interrogate Obaidur Rahman, the maternal uncle of Mariam Khatun, the second wife of MP Gazi Nazrul Islam, for five days in a case filed over her alleged abetment to suicide.

Inspector Mohammad Salauddin of Detective Branch's Tejgaon Zonal Team filed the remand petition on Monday.

On Tuesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam set Oct 1 for a hearing in the presence of the suspect, said Rafiqul Islam, a sub-inspector of the prosecution department.

The petition said evidence had emerged linking Obaidur to Mariam's death.
