Bangladesh, Aug. 18 -- A Dhaka court has sentenced a man to life in prison for abducting a child from Keraniganj in 2014.

Judge Munshi Md Moshiar Rahman of the Fourth Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal delivered the verdict on Monday.

The convict, Imam Hossain, was also fined Tk 100,000, prosecutor Ershad Alam George said.

If he fails to pay, he will have to serve another year of simple imprisonment.

The court also directed the Dhaka district magistrate or collector to recover the fine, including through the sale of Imam's movable and immovable property if necessary, and hand the money to the victim's family.

Imam was present in court when the verdict was announced and was sent to prison afterwards.
