Dhaka, March 6 -- A man has allegedly stabbed his wife and child to death before taking his own life following a family dispute in Naogaon's Atrai Upazila.

The incident occurred after 12:30am on Friday in Balram Chak Chowdhuripara village, according to Atrai Police Station chief (OC) Abdul Karim.

The dead were identified as housewife Brishti Sarkar, 23, her husband Joy Sarkar, 22, and their 2-year-old daughter Jeni Sarkar. Joy used to look after his family's farming work.

The couple had married about three and a half years ago after a romantic relationship.

Quoting family members and local residents, OC Karim said Joy had become addicted to drugs, which had led to frequent disputes between the couple.
