Bangladesh, July 15 -- A 7-year-old madrasa student has suffered a fractured left arm after allegedly being beaten with a cane by a teacher at a madrasa and orphanage in Manikganj's Saturia.

The family has also alleged that the teacher forced a pen into the child's mouth to stop him crying after the assault.

On Jul 11, the boy's father filed a written complaint with Saturia Police Station against assistant teacher Md Abdullah and madrasa Principal Md Omar Faruk.

Abdullah has admitted striking the child, saying he had been "inattentive" during lessons.

"I hit him twice with a cane. One blow landed on his hand, while the other struck elsewhere as he moved," he said.
