Dhaka, April 6 -- Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has revealed the list of the country's top 20 defaulters in the parliament, saying the bad loans in the country's banking sector stood at Tk 5.443 trillion as of Dec 31.

He revealed the information during a question-and-answer session chaired by Deputy Speaker Kayser Kamal on Monday.

Khosru presented the list in a written reply to a question from NCP lawmaker Abul Hasnat, well-known as Hasnat Abdullah.

The loans of the sitting MPs and their affiliated institutions from banks and finance companies amount to Tk 111.1731 billion.

However, Tk 33.308 billion of that amount was not shown as bad loans, in line with the court's instructions.
