Dhaka, Sept. 24 -- A lawyer for the 17-year-old boy who was in the driver's seat of a car that ran over and killed a construction worker on a footpath in Dhaka's Baridhara says the case has been settled for Tk 900,000.

Mehedi Hasan, 24, died after a car ran onto a footpath in the Baridhara Diplomatic Zone and hit him while he was resting there on Tuesday.

People at the scene detained the teenager, who was found in the driver's seat, and handed him over to police. He was released into his uncle's custody after questioning that night, but arrested the following day amid criticism over the handling of the incident.

On Thursday, a Dhaka juvenile court ordered the teenager to be sent to the Juvenile Development Centre in Gazipur's Tongi.
