Bangladesh, Aug. 1 -- The BNP has begun a meeting of its highest policymaking body as speculation grows over who will become Bangladesh's next president.

The meeting of the National Standing Committee, presided over by party chief Tarique Rahman, commenced at 8:10pm on Saturday, according to the party chairman's Gulshan office.

Among those attending in person are BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Selima Rahman, Iqbal Hassan Mahmood Tuku, and AZM Zahid Hossain.

Committee member Abdul Moyeen Khan is participating virtually via video link.
