Bangladesh, Aug. 27 -- President has appointed High Court Division Justice Mohammad Habibul Gani to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.

The law ministry confirmed the appointment on Thursday, under Article 95(1) of the Constitution.

The appointment takes effect from the date Justice Gani takes oath.

Justice Gani will take oath on Sunday, with the chief justice administering it.

His appointment will bring the number of judges in the Appellate Division to five.

Supreme Court spokesman Md Shafiqul Islam told bdnews24.com that the chief justice would administer the oath at 9:30am on Sunday at the Supreme Court's Judges' Lounge.

Justice Gani earned a Master of Social Science (MSS) and an LLB from Chittagong University.
