Dhaka, March 28 -- Toll collection on the Jamuna Bridge has reached Tk 34.15 million in 24 hours as the rush of people returning to the capital following the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays intensified.

A total of 46,278 vehicles crossed the bridge between Thursday and Friday midnight, according to Syed Riaz Uddin, executive engineer at the Jamuna Bridge site office.

The data reveals a significant surge in Dhaka-bound traffic, with 30,056 vehicles heading towards the capital, generating Tk 19.84 million in tolls.

Meanwhile, 16,222 north Bengal-bound vehicles contributed Tk 14.31 million.

To manage the heavy volume, bridge authorities have deployed 18 toll booths -- nine on each side.
