Dhaka, Feb. 17 -- Jamaat-e-Islami chief Shafiqur Rahman has been nominated as the Leader of the Opposition in parliament.
The party's Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher has been appointed as the deputy leader of the opposition, while Nahid Islam, the convenor of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has been named Opposition Chief Whip.
Taher shared this information on Wednesday.
Shafiqur was elected from the Dhaka-15 constituency, Taher from Cumilla-11, and Nahid Islam from the Dhaka-11 seat.
Following a landslide victory in the 13th parliamentary polls held on Feb 12, the BNP has formed the government with an absolute majority. The swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected MPs and cabinet members took place on Wednesday.
