Dhaka, March 26 -- An Independence Day event has been briefly disrupted as tensions arose between BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists after a Jamaat MP's name was not announced, prompting him to leave the venue.
Domar Upazila administrator (UNO) Shayla Sayeed Tonni said the incident occurred around 9am at Domar ML High School grounds during a parade organised by the Niphamari Upazila administration.
Maulana Abdus Sattar, MP for Nilphamari-1 and the district Jamaat chief, was present as the chief guest.
Party activists protested when the host did not announce his name. At the same time, some BNP supporters responded with slogans, escalating the situation.
