Dhaka, March 19 -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended Eid-ul-Fitr greetings to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, conveying wishes for peace, harmony and stronger bilateral ties.

The greeting was sent in a letter on Thursday, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka said.

On behalf of the people and government of India, Modi wrote: "Eid Mubarak! I extend warm greetings to you and the brotherly people of the People's Republic of Bangladesh on the joyous occasion of the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr."

Highlighting the significance of Ramadan, he said Muslims in India and across the world had spent the past month in fasting and prayer.
