Dhaka, March 19 -- Two inmates from Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj, including an Indian citizen, have died while in custody at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

The dead were identified as 34-year-old Pintu Kumar, an Indian national, and same aged Hashem Kha Talukder.

DMCH Police Outpost chief Md Faruk said prison guards brought the two men to the hospital around 1pm on Thursday.

Doctors at the emergency department pronounced them dead upon arrival, he said.

The bodies have been kept at the hospital morgue for postmortem.

The specific cases or the duration of their detention were not immediately available.

The cause of their illnesses and the circumstances leading to their deaths in custody remain under investigation.
