Dhaka, April 28 -- Bangladesh has registered 464 murder and 666 rape cases since the BNP-led government took up office, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said.

Disclosing the estimates in the parliament on Tuesday, he said 1,134 suspects were arrested in the cases, but 11 secured bail in murder cases and 71 in rape charges.

Of the arrestees, 604 are murder suspects and 530 were named in rape cases.

He was responding to a starred tabled question from the Opposition MP from the Cumilla-4 constituency Md Abul Hasnat, well-known as Hasnat Abdullah.

Hasnat, also a leader of the National Citizen Party, queried about the proceedings and latest updates of the rape and murder cases filed over the last two and a half months.
