Bangladesh, Aug. 26 -- Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmad has pledged to transform the police into a "people-friendly force".

He made the remark while discussing the country's law and order situation at a discussion marking Eid-e-Miladunnabi at the BNP's central office on Wednesday.

"I promise that the Bangladesh Police will, by the grace of Allah, become the people-friendly police force that the people expect," he said.

"We cannot expect a revolutionary change overnight.
