High Court petition seeks Bar Council election in 30 days, suspension of ad-hoc committee
Dhaka, July 1 -- A writ petition has been filed in the High Court challenging the legality of the ad-hoc committee formed to run the Bangladesh Bar Council.
The petition sought an order directing the authorities to hold a Bar Council election within the next 30 days.
Supreme Court lawyer Yunus Ali Akhand lodged the plea on Wednesday, also asking the court to suspend the current committee's activities until the election is completed.
He named the law secretary and other relevant authorities as respondents.
Before the July Uprising of 2024, the Bar Council had been under the "firm grip" of the then Awami League government.
