Dhaka, Aug. 10 -- Expelled Jamaat-e-Islami MP Gazi Nazrul Islam has secured eight weeks' anticipatory bail from the High Court in an attempted murder case filed with Pallabi Police Station in Dhaka.

A High Court bench of Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher passed the order on Monday.

Deputy Attorney General Syeda Shajia Sharmin confirmed the development. Senior lawyer SM Shahjahan represented Nazrul.

His personal driver Obaidur Rahman filed the case against Nazrul and four others on Jul 21 after a video showing an alleged "intimate moment" went viral on social media.

Obaidur alleged he was beaten after protesting the MP's "immoral relationship" and being suspected of involvement in leaking the video.
