Dhaka, June 19 -- Green papaya price has eased back to Tk 30 a kg at Segunbagicha kitchen market in Dhaka after costing a lot more for nearly three months.

The vegetable was selling for Tk 50 a kg in several markets last week. Its price began climbing at the start of Ramadan, reaching Tk 100 within two weeks. It stayed high for about two months before falling to Tk 60 ahead of Eid-ul-Azha in late May.

"This week, papaya is Tk 30 a kg," said Ayub Hossain, a trader at Segunbagicha kitchen market.

At Motijheel Colony Market, however, green papaya was selling for Tk 40 a kg.

Three weeks after Eid-ul-Azha, beef shops have fully reopened, while supplies of fish and chicken have also improved in Dhaka's kitchen markets.
