Dhaka, March 31 -- The government will procure an additional 260,000 tonnes of fuel to meet emergency energy demands triggered by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
The procurement includes 100,000 tonnes of crude oil and 160,000 tonnes of diesel.
The decision was finalised during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) on Tuesday, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.
This follows a preliminary decision made last Thursday to import 300,000 tonnes of diesel.
According to a finance ministry statement, the 100,000 tonnes of crude oil will be sourced through a direct purchase method (DPM) from the local firm Abeer Trade & Global Markets.
