Government restores magistracy powers to Army deployed in six districts
Dhaka, June 22 -- The government has granted magistracy powers to Army personnel deployed in six districts amid heightened security over the Awami League's founding anniversary.
On Monday, the public administration ministry said commissioned Army officers of the rank of captain and above will be able to exercise these powers in the designated areas.
Officers on deputation in the Bangladesh Coast Guard and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) of equivalent rank will also be authorised to use the authority.
According to a ministry notification, the powers will remain in effect from Jun 22 to Jun 30 in Dhaka, Chattogram and Gazipur metropolitan areas, and in Narayanganj, Gopalganj and Faridpur districts.
